Hey, so I decided to get drums, and I want some speakers around $ 100 that I use (and most likely hook my iPod to the height) and they need to be strong, but clearly I can play the drums hard for? … For any suggestion or help?

The phrase hard bop is not only referred to in the title; it's also used as the very first two words of the liner notes. Certainly, the album's revivalist in nature; it sounds as if it could well have been done in the '50s, and five of the six songs in fact were written by top boppers, including covers of Gigi Gryce's "Minority," Duke Jordan's "No Problem," Tadd Dameron's "Ladybird," Sonny Criss' "Blue Sunset," and Sam Jones' "Del Sasser." Nick Weldon's "The Message" is the only original (and convincingly emulates the brand of bop emphasizing rolling start-stop tempos), and "Blue Sunset" is the only point at which the tempo slows close to ballad territory. The record's good straight-ahead bop, and each of the players is skilled. The term is used out of a desire to be specific; Poncho Sanchez and others who are mainly interested in combining jazz with Afro-Cuban rhythms (son, guaguancó, cha-cha, mambo, danzón, etc.) have a different approach from, say, a pan-Latin jazzman like pianist Danilo Pérez (whose interest in Latin music includes not only Afro-Cuban salsa but also, a variety of South American rhythms). So where does Negroni's Trio -- a threesome consisting of José Negroni on acoustic piano, his son Nomar Negroni on drums and Jaime Rivera on electric and acoustic bass -- fit in? Essentially, they're a post-bop group that is capable of playing both Afro-Cuban jazz and non-Afro-Cuban Latin jazz. José Negroni, a hard-swinging virtuoso whose influences range from Chick Corea and Keith Jarrett to Michel Camilo, Eddie Palmieri and Irakere founder Chucho Valdés, wrote or co-wrote most of the songs on Piano-Drums-Bass -- and quite often, his playing and writing underscore his love of salsa and Afro-Cuban rhythms. But not all of the Latin rhythms that are heard on this 2004 release originated in Cuba, the birthplace of what came to be known as salsa. "Los Duendes," for example, has a strong Spanish flavor -- the piece isn't unlike some of Corea's more Spanish-minded compositions -- while "Bougainvillea" is Brazilian-influenced and "Mavi" employs the Puerto Rican bomba rhythm. Nonetheless, everything on this CD is relevant to Latin music in some way; that is true of the original material as well as interpretations of Wayne Shorter's "Footprints" (which is incorrectly listed as "Footprint" in the credits) and George Gershwin's "Summertime"." Organ also plays a key role on Drums and Guns, particularly on "Breaker," where it magnifies the anguish of lyrics like "my hand just kills and kills," and "Violent Past," where its massive sound closes the album by swallowing the listener in a cathedral of distortion. Aside from this song and the similarly epic "In Silence," most of Drums and Guns is gently but insistently tense, like a nagging conscience: "Take Your Time"'s looped church bells and "Belarus"' ghostly harmonies are bleakly, uncompromisingly beautiful. Low lightens up a little on the album's middle stretch, with "Hatchet," a plea for peace that's surprisingly playful ("let's bury the hatchet like the Beatles and the Stones"), and "Dust on the Window," where Mimi Parker's sweet voice sounds inherently comforting even as she wonders, "where can a girl get a meal?"
