dueling banjos

So for those of you who have at least two irons in the fire so to speak, I thought it may be interesting to write a Article on creating a business while being a full time employee for another company.
In many cases, if not all, the contractor grass should begin its work as part-time, keeping the day job if you want, until their new company is able to generate fairly long term, stable income to enable them to give up her job and concentrate on developing their business. This can be a daunting difficult because there are always two areas that they should focus on during much of their waking hours.
So … how can they stay motivated, based tasks and maintain their performance in these two areas where they should be in for Excel?
Try to use a feeding others. In other words, if throughout a given day, you're not hitting on all cylinders in your daily work, use Your passion and desire you have to do your own business a success as a way for you to go and help push you through a difficult period.
For example, let's say you have a project at work that you need to get completed by the end of the week. It is Monday morning and you do not feel you have enough gas in your tank to put your best work products at the same time and leave here Friday. Take a moment to step back and think that making your own business in your own business, and how it will be when you finally get to this point success than you ever dreamed! Get the feeling of excitement running through your body (all the entrepreneurs out there you know what I mean), now take care of those who feel the excitement, enthusiasm and positive thinking and apply them to your task at hand! Focus on what project you are working on which should be completed by the end of the week and at work!
Telling yourself that you do not just build a huge undertaking on your own time, but you also help your current employer and set themselves apart from the competition at work. Whether you're a great entrepreneur (even if you begin, tell anyway), and an incredible employee that your company is lucky to have – and you'll prove it by being one the best data to work! You're the best (insert here) there, you are better each day, adding value to everything you touch, and the success of any business is just around the corner!
The reason I titled this article Dueling Banjos was because it was the first thing that comes to mind when I used this technique several years ago myself. So for those of you who are familiar with the UN "dueling banjos" someone plays a tune, then another person who plays a tune a little faster, then the first person plays the air a little faster still, so they duel to see who can play the tune the fastest. Thus, you can build a great business, but can you be a great employee? So you're the best employee ever, but can you carry that over to building your own business? OF COURSE YOU CAN! With a little practice, you have your energy for its part, supplies, and vice versa.
I'm willing to bet that if you try to use this technique and learn How to control it using your passion for another area of your life, in this case, growing your own business you do better in another area, your daily work – you will find new energy, focus and creativity that did not exist before.
So stay focused on the overall picture, give your employer your best and when it is time to devote to your business, this is not the passion and excitement!

| | Dueling Banjos $7.18 Despite the long-term damage this film and the soundtrack's title theme did to bluegrass, the soundtrack stands as one of the best introductions to instrumental bluegrass available. The blistering virtuosity of multi-instrumentalists Eric Weissberg and Marshall Brickman ripple through such traditional numbers as "Shuckin' the Corn," "Little Maggie," and "Mountain Dew" with such fervor and passion, it's hard to believe that all this music is coming from two city slickers. Originally recorded in 1963 under the title New Dimensions in Banjo and Bluegrass, these tracks were subsequently released (along with the addition of the featured piece "Dueling Banjos") as the soundtrack for the 1973 Burt Reynolds film. To be fair, once the all too familiar opening strains of "Dueling Banjos" pass by, the song shifts almost into a completely different structure, becoming quite complex and mesmerizing. While the title track did in fact become a fairly sizable hit (pushing the album to gold status the same year) the real treasures are the rest of the songs. They all crackle with an energy and speed that remains faithful to tradition and still manages to not sound too flashy. A great starter album for the novice bluegrass fan, with enough intricate and interesting licks to keep any seasoned veteran stompin'. ~ Zac Johnson, All Music GuidePerformers: Marshall Brickman - Banjo; Steve Mandell - Banjo, Guitar, Vocals; Eric Weissberg - Banjo, Guitar, Violin, Vocals |

| | 50 Years of Dueling Banjos $16.98 It's been a half-century since Arthur Smith and Don Reno recorded Smith's little composition called "Feudin' Banjos" in the mid-'40s, and following its reinvention as "Dueling Banjos" on the soundtrack to 1973's Deliverance, it has become the most recorded and best-selling banjo instrumental in history. This interesting collection celebrates that fact with a set of bluegrass-tinged banjo pieces, including a newer version by Reno of the original "Feudin' Banjos" and Smith's own recasting of it (with Jeff Whittington) as "Dueling Banjos." Smith also reveals his penchant for the offbeat and bizarre by taking the theme into the polka realm with "Battling Banjos Polka" and flirts with R&B (sorta) with "Yakety Sax." There are those who are still suffering a bit of a Deliverance hangover and think the banjo (and "Dueling Banjos" in particular) is a little creepy, but for those who don't, and who like banjo done the high-powered bluegrass way, this collection makes for a fun set with a refreshing sense of humor. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide |

| | Feuding Banjos: Revenge of the Citybillys $12.98 Feuding Banjos: Revenge of the Citybillys draws tracks from two earlier releases, 1963's Anthology of the Banjo from Tradition and 1973's Feuding Banjos from Olympic Records (both Tradition and Olympic were imprints of Everest Records), and in truth, the material gathered here has been on the market in various configurations for years. The organizing principle this time around is the city kids who fell in love with old-time banjo tunes and styles and attempted to interpret them for a new generation during the great urban folk boom of the 1960s. But the tracks collected here aren't old-time banjo music exactly, but more like an approximation of it, with a much greater emphasis placed on speed (no doubt due to the heavy influence of bluegrass) and individuality than one generally sees in the older rural players, who had little use for innovation for innovation's sake. So, it isn't old-timey, but it is certainly informed by it, and pieces here by Dick Weissman (his fast, bright-as-a-diamond version of the fiddle tune "Old Joe Clark" is astounding), Mason Williams (yes, the "Classical Gas" guy, whose "Whistle While You Work" here is a similar pastiche in miniature), and Eric Weissberg (his version of Arthur Smith and Don Reno's "Feuding Banjos" became the template for "Dueling Banjos," the theme song for the 1972 movie Deliverance) have a light, airy charm that echoes the past even as it prefigures the "jazz grass" movement that would emerge with later players like Béla Fleck, Tony Trischka, and Tony Furtado. The end result is a charming, low-key (but fast-paced) banjo album that will delight fans of the instrument, piss off the purists, and leave most listeners wondering why no one here plays "Orange Blossom Special." ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide |
| | Banjos That Destroyed the World, Vol. 2 $11.98 The format of 1995's Banjos That Destroyed the World holds. Sporting cover art suggestive of those hokey '60s alien movies -- the ones where military might smashes a giant green alien, thereby sating America's fears of death by Cold War button pushing -- Banjos That Destroyed the World, Vol. 2 features frenetic banjo and fiddle-led runs through a clutch of bluegrass classics and bluegrassed-up versions of pop faves. While the first volume featured a lot of Wynn Osborne, Vol. 2 is more varied, offering cuts from Lester Flatt ("Shuckin' the Corn" by himself; "Dixie Flyer" and "Drive Time" with the Nashville Grass), Don Reno ("Twelfth Street Rag"), and the Osborne Brothers ("Jesse James"). There are lighthearted and typically rapid-fire instrumental versions of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and "Lyin' Eyes" by the Nashville Superpickers -- they border on novelty, but are nonetheless well played. Vol. 2 is rounded out by an obligatory version of "Dueling Banjos." ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide |

| | World's Greatest Bluegrass Banjos $16.98 When CMH named this collection, they decided to go for broke. Their collection wouldn't just include the best banjo picking from eastern Virginia, or the South, or even the entire United States. Instead, it would be World's Greatest Bluegrass Banjos. To back up their assertion, CMH brought together recordings by banjoists like Vic Jordon, Sonny Osborne, and Grandpa Jones. There's a nifty version of "Limehouse Blues" by Eddie Addock that even includes some nifty guitar and a bouncy take on "Dueling Banjos" by Don Reno. Lester Flatt & the Nashville Grass deliver a charged-up rendition of "Roll in My Sweet Baby's Arms" with the help of Kenny Ingram's speedy banjo technique, while Arthur Smith and Don Reno cut loose on a funky piece titled "Memphis Five String," which sounds a little like a mountaineer's version of "Memphis." While World's Greatest Bluegrass Banjos sells itself on the strength of its five-string material, many of these pieces leave room for fiddle, mandolin, and guitar solos, sweetening the package. A number of these songs/instrumentals, like "Soldier's Joy," will be familiar, but there are also pleasant surprises like a banjo-infused "Tequila." For the banjo fanatic and casual bluegrass fan, this collection offers 45 minutes of fancy picking. ~ Ronnie D.
