What is the difference between a clarinet and bass clarinet?
I play the clarinet, but I go tomorrow to the bass clarinet. What is the difference and is it harder to play than clairnet regular size, but I know what else
As other posters have said, It is the largest and lowest sounds. Regarding the play … There are some differences torque. Keys: You do not have to cover sets, as there are runners like a sax … However, it is all in the middle of the 1st finger touches the left hand. This allows for better jumps an octave higher. Sometimes you play Wide, sometimes you press they key, but leave everything open. Take a look when you get your horn and you'll see what I mean. In addition, there are Pinky keys. This allows you to play soft Eb instead of E, and also works as a substitute Bb (3rd line staff). This means you can move your break … If you have a route to the top of the range of personal writing, a jump up to Bb, then back, you do not need to cross this break badly! Regarding your mouth: You need to drop your jaw a little, and blow your look a little more direct. With a small clarinet Bb, your language would be in the position of "eeeee" (or close to that). With bass clarinet, try to make more than one aaaaa "(as in the day). This help your tone, but not move your tongue so far back or you sacrifice joint. When you breathe, make sure you support your diaphragm … ALWAYS … and open the throat a bit. In addition, the clarinet is not sitting on its bell. You have a neck strap and a leg "which is attached to the clarinet. The leg should be adjusted so you're not bending the neck to the ceiling, and you can still stand straight without bending down to get to the mouthpiece. You may want to have someone help you resolve first, then leave like that when you take the clarinet to another. The rule is to sit as you play, and put the mouthpiece for you. Once this is set, PLEASE use the belt neck … this is not really there to take up the clarinet, but it adds stability, especially during fast runs. Nevertheless, it is really an animal quite different, and you may be frustrated at first. It may be called a clarinet ", but it reacts very differently a soprano clarinet. Be patient and try to work a few minutes every day … you begin to get, and there may be a lot of fun play. Just try to do long tones first (starting open G and down chromatic, then start to open and edit chromatically G) … slowly … to get the feel of what should happen on every note. Then, start adding to the slowdown licks. You'll play it in no time! 
(PS-The bass clarinet also uses a different mouthpiece and reed … but if you're in a stalemate and do not have reed, a reed tenor sax should work to obtain adequate reeds.)

| | This Is Not a Clarinet $16.98 Evan Ziporyn is the clarinetist in the Bang on a Can all-stars. This is his first solo clarinet record. It doesn't sound like any other solo clarinet record ever made because we've never heard an approach to the instrument quite like this one. While other great musicians have learned odd fingerings and different modes of breath control when exploring the seemingly limited reach of the instrument, Ziporyn took those limitations as a license to go further and expand the timbral, tonal, and mechanical reaches of the instrument into entirely new terrains. He does so here by use of variant tonguing techniques like tongue slapping, extended vocal techniques that are pushed trough the instrument as it is being played, his use of microtonal invention learned from Joe Maneri's pioneering studies and the use of multiphonics (being able to play more than one note at a time on woodwind), a technique previously thought impossible. Ziporyn brings a long and varied background to his approach to the instrument from leading a gamelan ensemble and having studied Balinese music to working with Steve Reich and the Ensemble Modern. He's also played pop with Paul Simon. But none of that matters when it comes to actually listening to this intriguing, mesmerizing album. Using alto, B flat, and bass clarinets, Ziporyn creates aural soundscapes that feel like travelogs to the listener. From the long bass clarinet piece, "Partial Truths," which opens the album, Ziporyn is musically exploring the inside of the instrument to make it sing, he's not so much trying to get sound out, but to put it in and see how it circulates through. It's haunting, pleasing, and addictively listenable. He follows this with "Four Impersonations" of music from Bali. It's a small suite that goes outside the Western scale, or appears to, to reach for tonalities and chromatic elements not usually heard in the West at all, let alone from the clarinet. In sum, This Is Not a Clarinet is a treasure trove of wonderment and a linguistic miracle for the language of Western music.
