How can I strengthen my left hand so it looks the same as my right when you play a snare drum?
Let me starting first say that I was VERY GOOD trap drummer my high school. But I had a car accident and I hurt my left wrist and I can not play like I did. I do not play trap more and I probably will not until I rose again and I do not miss marching season! So when I play, especially as double rolls and especially my many rebounds, my shots do not sound equal. What exercises can I do to help my hand Left? (I traditional playing BTW).
Well, my old band teacher told me to just play consistently quavers with your bad hand. Generally around sixteen bars with your left then around 8 bars with your right hand. This will improve your bad hand, while keeping your right hand height. I think you could play triplets and if you want something faster.
AMAZING HAND DRUMMING with COOL GRAND FINALE!

| | Ring of Hands $12.98 Ring of Hands is, more often than not, overshadowed by the albums that surrounded it. Argent's debut included Russ Ballard's "Liar," and 1972's All Together Now was the album that yielded their Top Five hit "Hold Your Head Up," while 1973's In Deep produced "God Gave Rock 'N' Roll to You," which became a bigger hit for Kiss in 1992. But Ring of Hands is one of Argent's most progressively oriented albums, with most of its energy and dynamics coming from Rod Argent's keyboard playing. This album shines the spotlight a little brighter on Rod Argent than on Ballard, and its weight lies more on the band's ability to produce some impressive progressive rock than to create lyrically based rock & roll. Argent himself is spectacular throughout most of the album, lending his lone, rich keyboard solos to tracks like "Lothlorien," "Cast Your Spell Uranus," and "Sleep Won't Help Me." The album does wander into pop familiarity from time to time, but only mildly, like on "Chained" or "Where Are We Going Wrong," and, even so, Rod Argent's playing appropriately protrudes through most of songs to give Ring of Hands an independent feel from all of the albums that followed. In 1999, Sony's Collectables reissued the album with a bonus track; Rod Argent's "He's a Dynamo," which was written one year after the release of the original Ring of Hands album. ~ Mike DeGagne, All Music GuidePerformers: Rod Argent - Keyboards, Vocals; Russ Ballard - Guitar, Vocals; Robert Henrit - Drums; Jim Rodford - Bass |

| | Hands $15.28 Topical folk like this ruled FM radio in the late '60s and early '70s, but today, Pat Humphries' odes to racial and sexual freedom and union organizing can sound pretty anachronistic. That's not to say there aren't some excellent songs on this CD, which features a preponderance of lilting originals, plus covers from the likes of Tom Pacheco, Mimi Farina, and Phil Ochs (whose previously unrecorded pro-labor anthem "Hands" opens the disc). Like such artists as Joan Baez, though, Humphries can come across as humorless and a bit preachy at times. This good album would have been better with a few light touches -- and a few less platitudes about freedom, justice, and love. ~ Jeff Burger, All Music GuidePerformers: David Amram - Cowbell, Drums, Flute, Guiro, Lakota Flute, Percussion, Rattle, Whistle (Human), Whistle (Instrument), Wood Block; Kim Harris - Harmony Vocals, Vocal Harmony; Kim & Reggie Harris - Harmony Vocals, Vocal Harmony; Reggie Harris - Harmony Vocals, Vocal Harmony; David Hornung - Accordion; Abby Newton - Cello; Sandy Opatow - Harmony Vocals, Vocal Harmony; Mark Rust - Banjo; Tani Tabbal - Conga, Drums, Shaker; Jay Ungar - Fiddle; Pat Humphries - Guitar, Vocals; Tom Prasada-Rao - Piano; Steve Rust - Bass |
| | Hands of Time $16.98 For this modern straight-ahead set, Rick Margitza (heard on both tenor and soprano) performs six of his challenging originals plus "Embraceable You." The latter, whose melody is given some altered notes that do not help and make things sound sour, is a low point. However, Margitza sounds much stronger on his originals, particularly the boogaloo "Hip Bop," the medium-tempo blues "Forty Five Pound Hound," and the joyful "At Long Last." His rhythm section is excellent (bassist George Mraz is particularly responsive to the saxophonist's playing), and Margitza sounds in prime form, showing individuality on both of his horns. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music GuidePerformers: Al Foster - Drums; Kevin Hays - Piano; Rick Margitza - Sax (Soprano), Sax (Tenor); George Mraz - Bass |
| | Hands On $17.98 Nearly 30 years and 15 albums deep into one of contemporary jazz's most consistently melodic and funky careers, Bobby Lyle continues to take a Hands On approach to creating a perfect balance of elegance and groove. On his Heads Up debut, the versatile pianist -- who has been musical director for Bette Midler, Al Jarreau, and Anita Baker, et al., between solo projects -- is intent on grabbing the listener right away with three jamming and danceable, synth brass-flavored tracks that also lightly showcase his inventive and playful sense of improvisation. He sandwiches a gleeful, bouncy version of the familiar disco hit "Best of My Love" with the seductive "Passion Drive" and the title cut, on which Lyle floats a light-on-its-feet melody over thoroughly modern crunchy, thumping beats. Amidst this rhythmic overdrive are a handful of cuts that perfectly capture Lyle's trademark romantic vibe: the balmy, tropically tinged "Poinciana," the reflective closer "Beth" (which showcases his sweet ivory magic at its most poignant), and "Lost in Love," an irresistible ballad written and performed by Lyle and the always captivating Peabo Bryson. Longtime Lyle fans will also enjoy the heavy mix of old-school synth and acoustic piano on "Return of the Genie," which recalls the cool vibe of his debut album, The Genie. It's a perfect way to chart his growth as an artist over the years and to show that the charm was there from the beginning. ~ Jonathan Widran, All Music GuidePerformers: John Adams - Bass; Keith Adkins - Trombone; Keith Banks - Drums; Peabo Bryson - Vocals; Johny Calderon - Guitar; Wayne Delano - Saxophone; Jorge Ginorio - Percussion; Larry Kimpel - Bass; Bobby Lyle - Keyboards, Piano; Derrick McCampbell - Vocals; Todd Parsnow - Guitar; |

| | In My Hands $17.98 The basic approach taken by Celtic fiddler Natalie MacMaster and her producer, arranger, and guitarist Gordie Sampson is to take a group of traditional tunes, for example, the march and three reels mixed together and called "The Farewell," and come up with a folk-rock arrangement that emphasizes MacMaster's lyrical playing as well as a sturdy backbeat. But the two feel the need to spice things up even more, and so there are several unusual tracks, starting with the lead-off title song, in which MacMaster recites a lyric in tribute to her instrument, and including "Space Ceilidh," which features some appropriately spacy "programming"; "Olympic Reel," a rock workout with new age elements written by Mark O'Connor, who duels with MacMaster on his own fiddle; and "Get Me Through December," a ballad with Alison Krauss on vocals. The result is a hybrid album intended to appeal to a broader audience than the purist Celtic crowd, or perhaps to introduce them to some new sounds without putting them off. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music GuidePerformers: Natalie MacMaster - Electric Fiddle, Fiddle, Step Dancing, Vocals, Vocals (Background); Art Avalos - Clapping, Handclapping, Percussion; Jesse Cook - Clapping, Guitar, Handclapping; Charlie Cooley - Clapping, Drums, Drums (Snare), Handclapping; Matthew Foulds - Clapping, Handclapping, Palmas; Gordie Sampson - Clapping, Guitar, Guitar (Acoustic), Guitar (Bass), Keyboards, Mandolin, Organ, Organ (Hammond), Percussion; Aaron Davis - Fender Rhodes, Piano; Laoise Kelly - Harp; Mark O'Connor - Fiddle; Mark OConner - Fiddle; Douglas Perry - Viola; Mary Shannon - Mandolin; |

| | A Show of Hands [Import] [LP] $32.98 Rush: Geddy Lee (vocals, bass, keyboards); Alex Lifeson (guitar); Neil Peart (drums, percussion).Continuing a tradition that began more than a decade earlier, Rush follows its 12th (!) studio album with a live one, A SHOW OF HANDS. The album draws almost exclusively from the third chapter of Rush's life, 1982-89, stressing the notion that their newer material was just as important as their classics. By this time they had eschewed the typical guitar trio sound for one that emphasized layers and texture. Amazingly, they were able to reproduce their studio albums live without taking extra musicians on the road or playing along with sequencers. Although they didn't physically play every instrument, every sound heard live was triggered by Geddy, Alex and Neil using whatever appendage was available.A SHOW OF HANDS includes all of Rush's mid-'80s hits: "The Big Money," "Subdivisions," "Distant Early Warning" and "Time Stand Still," which featured 'Til Tuesday's Aimee Mann singing backup on a giant video screen. Also included is "Witch Hunt" from MOVING PICTURES and A FAREWELL TO KINGS' "Closer To the Heart." Of course no Rush concert would be complete without a drum solo, and "The Rhythm Method" shows why Neil Peart is considered one of the best rock drummers ever. |

| | From My Hands $11.98 When Frank Christian's song "Three Flights Up" appeared on Nanci Griffith's classic 1992 album Other Voices Other Rooms, most of the mass record-buying public was exposed to Christian's work for the first time. A legend among legends in folk circles, Christian has lent his songs and masterful guitar playing to albums by several bigger-name artists, but only sporadically records under his own name. From My Hands represents his best and most consistent work. Kicking off the album with his own version of "Three Flights Up," Christian, as is so often the case when songwriters are given a long-awaited chance to perform their own material, lends the song an emotional depth that others, including Nanci Griffith, frankly just aren't capable of matching. Not content to rest on his writing laurels, however, Christian devises guitar parts that are musical statements unto themselves, weaving in and out of the vocals and heightening the lyrics' emotional impact. The accompanying players, particularly bassist Peter Herbert and drummer/percussionist Jeff Berman, do a fine job of providing interesting support for Christian's subtle, often quirky material. ~ Pemberton Roach, All Music GuidePerformers: Garth Hudson - Accordion; Kid Java - Harmonica; Peter Abbott - Drums; Paul Adamy - Bass; Matt Balitsaris - Guitar (Electric); Jeff Berman - Percussion, Vibraphone; Frank Christian - Guitar, Guitar (12 String Electric), Guitar (12 String), Guitar (Acoustic), Guitar (Electric), Vocals; Nanci Griffith - Vocals, Vocals (Background); Peter Herbert - Bass, Bass (Acoustic); Lee Satterfield - Vocals, Vocals (Background) |
